Files are saved over on a shared drive, and the record of who changed what, and who signed it off, gets pieced together from email before the next design review.
Drawings and STEP files go out by email, a fix lands the next day, and nobody can say for certain which revision the machine shop quoted against.

The CAD is licensed, the PDM that normally sits under it isn’t. Parts live in folders named final_v3, and the prime still expects a clean, released data set at delivery.
Defence and export-controlled programmes ask where files are hosted, who can open each one, what gets logged and what happens to local copies when an engineer leaves.

A full PLM rollout means implementation partners, administrators and data migration. That’s a lot for a team of 10 to 30 engineers who need version control, check-out and reviews now.
Custom integrations are available on the Enterprise plan, so released revisions and file metadata can reach the systems your programme relies on. There’s no off-the-shelf Teamcenter, Windchill or ENOVIA connector today.
Self-serve APIs and webhooks: coming soon
We use a sample titanium clevis fitting, never customer data, to take one change from a PDR action to a signed-off, released revision the machine shop builds from.
1. Revise the fitting to close a PDR action
At the PDR, stress found a negative lug margin. Your design engineer checks out the CATIA part, so nobody else can save over it, thickens the lugs to 10 mm and contributes the part, drawing and STEP export with a note citing the action. No CAD plugin, no PLM migration.
2. Review the lug change with stress and quality
Your design lead raises a change order with named reviewers from design, stress and quality. CAD diffing puts the new STEP export beside the PDR baseline, with the thicker lugs highlighted and the volume change shown, and the reviewers approve before the part is released.
Included on Business and Enterprise plans.
3. Show the CDR board who signed it off
At the CDR, the board closes the PDR action only on evidence. The change order keeps every review and the release with names and dates, and the project’s audit log records the release, so nobody rebuilds the trail from email.
Included on Business and Enterprise plans.
4. Share the released fitting with the machine shop
Add the machine shop as a guest on the STEP exported from the released part, not the whole project, so they quote from the release, not an emailed attachment. Guests view, measure and comment in the browser on the files you share, and download only if you allow it. Guest viewers are free.
Request a sandbox and we’ll email you an invite to a sample project.

Look elsewhere: authorised hosting
For ITAR, FedRAMP, CMMC or US-persons-only hosting, choose a vendor whose current authorisation covers it.
Look elsewhere: full PLM today
If you need BOMs, requirements and configuration baselines in one system, choose a PLM. CAD ROOMS can sit alongside it.

ISO 27001 certified and SOC 2 Type II attested, with GDPR-compliant processing. We never use your files, data or metadata to train AI.
Questions aerospace, space and defence teams ask
Where is our data hosted, and who can access it?
CAD ROOMS runs on AWS, with customer data in a dedicated AWS region, encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2+ in transit, under ISO 27001 certified and SOC 2 Type II attested controls. Guests only see the files you share. Regional hosting or your own storage bucket can be scoped as custom Enterprise setups. A DPA is available on request.
Which CAD tools does it work with?
CATIA, NX, Creo, SOLIDWORKS, Inventor, Solid Edge, STEP, IGES and 35+ formats in total. CAD ROOMS works at file-system level through a desktop sync drive, so there’s no CAD plugin and no CAD migration. Engineers keep designing in the tools they already use.
Can it support configuration management under AS9100 or ECSS?
It holds the records change control relies on: unique file names enforced by admins, change orders with named reviewers, releases and a timestamped version history for every file. That is evidence AS9100D, EIA-649 or ECSS-M-ST-40C audits ask for on change control. BOM management and automatic part numbering are on our roadmap, and CAD ROOMS doesn’t certify compliance for you.
Can CAD ROOMS work alongside Teamcenter, Windchill or 3DEXPERIENCE?
Yes. CAD ROOMS manages the CAD files, versions, reviews and releases engineers work with every day, while BOMs, requirements and wider product records stay in your PLM. There’s no off-the-shelf Windchill, Teamcenter or 3DEXPERIENCE (ENOVIA) connector today, so data exchange is scoped as a custom integration. Many smaller teams and suppliers use CAD ROOMS on its own instead of a PLM rollout.
How do we share designs with suppliers and primes?
Add them as guests to the specific files they need, never the whole workspace. Guests view, measure and comment in the browser on the files you share. They can’t edit, check out or release files, and can download only if you allow it. Guest viewers are free. On Business and Enterprise plans, audit logs record activity on shared files.
Can it run on-premise or air-gapped?
Not off the shelf. CAD ROOMS is cloud software, but private deployments can be scoped as a custom Enterprise project for programmes that can’t connect to an external cloud. Raise it on your first call so we can assess it with your IT team.
