One client issues CATIA V5, another SOLIDWORKS, a third only STEP. Every issue means a pack and go, a ZIP and an email, and nobody can say which version the client opened.
Shared drives and sync tools make it hard to prove who can open which project, especially with contractors coming and going.

Comments come back on old exports, in chat or on marked-up PDFs, and nobody is sure which revision the client was looking at.

Generic sync tools create conflicted copies and break assembly references, and nobody can tell which copy is the one the client approved.
Your team works in the CAD each client specifies. CAD ROOMS manages work in progress, internal review and release, and released files go to the client in the format the contract asks for, exported from your CAD tool.
Self-serve APIs and webhooks: coming soon
We use a sample client project, never real client data, to take one client comment on an electric drive unit through check and release, and back to the client’s team.
1. Pick up the client’s comment on the model
Client A’s engineer opens the housing in her browser as a guest and comments on the terminal box: their cable tray runs on the left. Your project lead @mentions the designer to change it. No screenshots or email threads.
2. Make the change in the client’s CAD
Your contract designer checks out the housing and edits it in SOLIDWORKS straight from the synced project folder, with no plugin, so nobody else can save over it. They contribute the change with a note citing the client’s comment.
3. Check against the last issue, then release
Your design checker compares the new version with the revision the client commented on. CAD diffing highlights only the terminal box and its blend into the fins, so the feet and 100 mm shaft height haven’t moved. The checker and project lead approve the change, and it’s released.
Included on Business and Enterprise plans.
4. Share the release with the client’s team
Your project lead adds Client A’s installation engineer as a guest on the released housing, with download off. Guests view, measure and comment in the browser on the files you share, and download only if you allow it. Guest viewers are free.
Request a sandbox and we’ll email you an invite to a sample project.
Where CAD ROOMS fits next to the tools consultancies already use. Competitor details checked October 2026.
OneDrive, SharePoint or Dropbox
No server needed, but check-out isn’t CAD-aware and there’s no release step. Clients get file previews at best.
On-premises PDM
Often built around one CAD vendor, and client browser review depends on the edition.
CAD-native cloud
Works when everyone models in that one CAD. Client guest access usually needs a higher tier.
CAD ROOMS
35+ formats with no server or plugin. Clients view, measure and comment as free guests.

ISO 27001 certified and SOC 2 Type II attested, with GDPR-compliant processing. We never use your files, data or metadata to train AI.
Questions consultancies ask about client CAD
How do engineering consultancies keep each client’s CAD data separate?
Create one project per client. Members only see the projects they’re invited to, and admins control who belongs to each one. Clients and partners join as guests on specific files, never the whole workspace. On Business and Enterprise plans, audit logs record platform and project activity by user, timestamp and action, evidence you can point to under client NDAs.
Do our clients need a CAD licence or a paid seat to review a design?
No. Clients join as guests from an email invitation, then view, measure and comment on the files you share in the browser, with no CAD software. Guest viewers are free. Guests can’t edit, check out or release files, and can download only if you allow it. Anyone who needs to edit, or to work across a whole project, needs a seat, and so do your own reviewers and approvers.
Which CAD formats can a consultancy work with?
35+ formats, including CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, NX, Creo, Inventor, Solid Edge, Rhino, AutoCAD, STEP, IGES and STL. CAD ROOMS works at file-system level through a desktop sync drive, with no CAD plugin, so each engineer uses the tool the client specifies and different CAD tools share one workspace.
What does CAD ROOMS cost for a small consultancy?
Team is $60 per seat per month billed annually ($75 monthly), for up to 5 seats. Business is $120 ($150 monthly) and adds revision compare, ECO approvals and audit logs. Five seats on Business, billed annually, cost $600 a month. Client guest viewers are free, and you can start with a 14-day free trial.
What happens when a contractor leaves or a client project ends?
Remove them from the workspace. Their browser access is revoked and the synced files in their CAD ROOMS drive are deleted automatically. Removing a guest ends their access straight away. The project keeps its version history and notes. Copies saved or downloaded outside the CAD ROOMS drive aren’t affected, so set download rights deliberately.
What can we give clients for their supplier security questionnaires?
ISO 27001 certification, SOC 2 Type II attestation and GDPR compliance, with AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.2+ in transit. A DPA is available on request, audit logs are on Business and Enterprise, SAML SSO on Enterprise, and no customer files or metadata are used to train AI. We don’t hold a TISAX label today.
Can we name CAD ROOMS as an approved platform in client NDAs?
Yes. Name CAD ROOMS in your client agreements as the platform that stores and shares their CAD, and as your data processor. A DPA and our list of sub-processors are available on request. Our ISO 27001 certification and SOC 2 Type II attestation cover the controls your client’s IT and legal teams will review.
Our client mandates Teamcenter, Windchill or 3DEXPERIENCE. Where does CAD ROOMS fit?
CAD ROOMS manages your work in progress, internal reviews and releases. Released files are then delivered into the client’s system as the contract specifies, usually native files or STEP. There’s no off-the-shelf connector to Teamcenter, Windchill or 3DEXPERIENCE today. Custom integrations are available on Enterprise if you need a direct link.
How do files our clients send get into CAD ROOMS?
Save them into that client’s project in the CAD ROOMS drive and they’re versioned from then on; add a version note saying where they came from. Guests can’t upload files today, so inbound data still arrives by email or file transfer, but everyone then works from the same received revision.
How do we move over from SharePoint, Dropbox or OneDrive?
Copy your project folders into the CAD ROOMS drive on your computer. They sync to the cloud and are versioned from that point on, with no re-modelling and no CAD plugin. A common approach is to start with your next client project and move the archive over time. You can request a sandbox first. The desktop app runs on Windows; on a Mac, team members review, measure, comment and approve in the browser.
