Die, fixture, chassis and bodywork designs sit on a server, but nothing records who changed what, or which revision suppliers, the composites shop and the machine shop should build from.
Project managers, quality engineers and suppliers all need to check the part, but a CAD licence for every reviewer isn’t realistic, so they get STEP exports and screenshots instead.

A part is up-issued by renaming a file and emailing a STEP. When the OEM asks what changed, who approved it and when it was released, the answer is buried in inboxes.
Every OEM and supplier has its own portal, project site and inbox thread, so comments rarely land next to the file they refer to.

On-premises PDM usually means a Windows server, a SQL database and a VPN for every remote engineer and second site. A full PLM rollout takes months, and the next upgrade package is due in weeks.
Custom integrations are available on the Enterprise plan, so released revisions and file metadata can reach the systems your production team relies on.
Self-serve APIs and webhooks: coming soon
We use a sample 300 mm brake disc, never customer data, to follow one foundry request from a comment on the 3D model to the revision everyone builds from.
1. Get the foundry’s request on the model
Your foundry posts its machining-stock request on the casting model in the browser, not in an email. Guests view, measure and comment in the browser on the files you share, and download only if you allow it. Guest viewers are free.
2. Check out the casting and add machining stock
Your design engineer checks out the casting, so nobody else can save over it, edits it in SOLIDWORKS straight from the synced project folder and contributes the change with a note. No server, VPN or CAD plugin, and the history shows who changed what and why.
3. Review the change with quality and machining
Your quality and machining engineers put the two casting revisions side by side. CAD diffing highlights the friction faces and shows volume up 43,514 mm³, so quality can judge whether the OEM needs notifying and machining can check cycle time.
Included on Business and Enterprise plans.
4. Approve and release the new casting
Quality and machining approve the change order in the browser, and the new casting is released. There is now one released revision for the foundry and your machine shop to build from, and the audit log answers the OEM’s “who approved it, and when?”
Included on Business and Enterprise plans.

On-premises SOLIDWORKS PDM or Vault
No Windows server, SQL database or VPN to maintain, and suppliers review in the browser.
Onshape
Its PDM covers data modelled in Onshape. CAD ROOMS manages your CATIA, NX and SOLIDWORKS files without a CAD switch.
Teamcenter or Windchill
File-level PDM at published prices, without a PLM implementation project. BOM management is on our roadmap.
Separate design review tools
Review sits next to check-out and version history, so feedback lands on the revision you release.

ISO 27001 certified and SOC 2 Type II attested, with GDPR-compliant processing. We never use your files, data or metadata to train AI.
Questions automotive suppliers and race teams ask
Do we need to change CAD software?
No. CAD ROOMS works at file level alongside CATIA, NX, Creo, SOLIDWORKS, Inventor, Solid Edge and more: 35+ formats, including STEP and IGES. Engineers keep their CAD tools with no plugin, and CAD ROOMS handles versions, reviews and releases. If your OEM works in CATIA or NX and you design in SOLIDWORKS, both sets of files sit in one workspace.
Can suppliers and toolmakers review 3D CAD without a CAD licence?
Yes. Invite them as guests on specific files, never the whole workspace. Guests view, measure and comment in the browser on the files you share. They can’t edit, check out or release files, and can download only if you allow it. Guest viewers are free. Removing a guest ends browser access, but anything already downloaded stays with them, so leave downloads off for sensitive work.
Does CAD ROOMS replace our OEM’s supplier portal?
No. Deliveries to your OEM still go through the OEM’s portal or exchange channel. CAD ROOMS covers the work before that: internal revisions, check-outs, approvals and sub-supplier reviews. You can deliver the released revision and show what changed and who approved it.
Can CAD ROOMS support APQP, PPAP resubmissions and IATF 16949 audits?
It supports them with change records, but it doesn’t make you compliant. Version history with notes shows what changed and why, and on Business and Enterprise plans CAD diffing, approval workflows before release and audit logs show who approved it and when. That gives your quality team evidence for APQP design reviews, a PPAP resubmission or a customer audit. Your quality system still owns the process.
What does CAD ROOMS cost compared with a server-based PDM?
Team is $60 per seat per month for up to 5 seats and Business $120, billed annually ($75 and $150 monthly); Enterprise is custom. Revision compare and change orders are on Business and Enterprise. Guest viewers are free, and there’s no server, database or VPN to buy and maintain. Start with a 14-day free trial.
Does CAD ROOMS work for motorsport teams?
Yes, for design-office work. Design, composites and machining work from one released revision of each part, check-out stops two engineers saving over the same file, and composites or machining suppliers review shared parts in the browser as guests. Remote engineers get current files over an internet connection, without a VPN. Parts lifing and maintenance tracking belong in your EAM or ERP.
How do we bring legacy tool and die drawings under revision control?
Copy the project folders into the CAD ROOMS drive and they sync to the cloud, with version history from that point on. Earlier history doesn’t come with them. A common approach is to start with one live programme or site and move the archive over time. Admins can enforce unique file names, so the same file name can’t exist twice.
